2021 blue roan RMHA mare
EE nRn
14.3 hands
Wren is an intelligent, sweet, beautiful young mare. She is sensitive and forward, plus confident and eager to please, making her a fun trail horse. She is very athletic, light on her feet, responsive, surefooted and agile.
Wren has exceptionally good ground manners, leads and handles with a soft feel, in tune with her handler. She will stand tied for hours, hobbles, ground ties, and is perfect for farrier. She has been introduced to basic R+ positive reinforcement training and will happily do obstacles at liberty. Wren will come pick up her rider at the mounting block (or anywhere) and enjoys learning skills like that.
Wren was started very lightly under saddle when she was nearly four, then was given more time to mature before additional training. She did quite a bit of ground work as a young horse, and has been ponied extensively on trails, as well as in parades. In her short time under saddle, Wren has already proven herself quite solid and reliable on trails of any terrain. She is not spooky and approaches new things with curiosity.
She has been hauled to shows and did well camping overnight on the high tie. Wren is naturally well suited to trail obstacle competitions, with her curious willing demeanor and sensitivity to subtle cues. She has been to a couple obstacle shows and placed very well despite very little training yet at the time. Wren has been introduced to basic cattle work, which she enjoyed. She has also been ridden in parades. Wren would love to learn advanced liberty work.
Wren is now back in work to complete more advanced training in preparation for a new partnership in the spring.
Wren came to us with her mom at only 3 months old, and has been raised with the utmost care. She has enjoyed species appropriate management, optimal nutrition, hoof care, dentistry, medical care, bodywork, mindful handling, etc. She is up to date on all health care & vaccines.
Wren does not have any stable vices or health issues.
Wren has always been barefoot and has strong healthy hooves. She does prefer wearing hoof boots on rocky trails, which is more a reflection of her sensitive personality than of hoof quality.
Wren is a sensitive mare who prefers light, thoughtful handling. She will tolerate a wide range of handlers and riders, but would not thrive with someone who is heavy handed or rough. If over faced, Wren will still behave well and do what is asked of her, but she has a tendency to shut down and check out mentally if too much pressure is continuously applied. Wren leads and rides best with a soft feel and subtle cues. She is in tune with her person and responds to the lightest of aids.
Wren would like to find the right person who appreciates all the greatness that comes with a sensitive opinionated mare, and will bring out the best in her, as she truly shines in the right hands. Wren is a partnership horse and thrives on praise. She is always looking for the right answer and is very easy to train new skills.
Wren loves attention, scratches, grooming, pampering, baths, bodywork, etc. She is a very open communicator about what she enjoys and will readily show you where she wants a good scratch. She has very good manners about food and treats.
Wren is quiet enough to be ridden occasionally by an advanced beginner, but she does seek a partner with enough nuance to match her preferred sensitivity.
Herd dynamics - Wren is fairly dominant and is near the top of the hierarchy here, but respects the boss mare who is above her.
Sire: Sonny Bono (by Sonny)
Dam: Sambo's Black Diamond (by Blue Smokin' Sambo)
Wren has had one beautiful blue roan filly in 2026, who is nearly a carbon copy of her.
